Pre AP Algebra I
1 unit              2 semesters

Students completing this course will have covered the following major concepts: solid geometry: number sense – algebraic operations with problem solving: solving equations – one variable 1st degree: inequalities – one variable 1st degree: functions and relations; statistics and probability: linear equations/inequalities: systems of equations with problem solving: polynomials; rational expressions, and radicals – square roots include variables.

Pre AP Geometry
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Algebra I

Students completing this course will have covered the following major concepts: patterns, lines, and planes; classifying triangles, parallelograms, and other polygons: reasoning in geometry; coordinates in geometry; parallel lines; angle relationships; conjectures about triangles; areas and volumes; applying right triangles; and circles and spheres.

Pre AP Algebra II
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Geometry

Pre-AP Algebra II contains similar topics as Algebra I but with more depth, breadth, and sophistication. Additional topics covered include complex and irrational numbers, relations and functions and the inclusion of logarithms.

Pre AP Algebra III
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Algebra II and teacher recommendation

Algebra III is college level Algebra course that is designed to cover the same material as College Algebra.  It includes in-depth study of functions, polynomials, exponentials and logarithms.  It also covers the areas of mathematical modeling, regression analysis, matrices, probability, and analytical geometry with conic sections.  Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and problem solving skills throughout the course.  Upon completion of the class, students are encouraged to take the CLEP test for credit in College Algebra.

Pre AP Calculus with Trigonometry
1 unit              2 semester

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Algebra II

This course emphasizes applied techniques and critical thinking.  The first half covers functions, polynomials, powers, limits, exponentials, logarithms, and basic Trigonometry.  The second half covers advanced Trigonometry, vectors, conic sections, probability, and an introduction to the Calculus concepts of limits, derivatives, and  integrals.

AP Calculus AB
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Calculus or equivalent

This course is the study of differential and integral calculi, similar to a first year calculus course. This course relies on the student’s understanding of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, advanced mathematics topics, limits and elementary functions. In addition, students will develop a deep understanding of limits, elementary functions, differentiation, integration, basic differential equations and their applications. Upon completion of this course, students will prepare and take the AP AB exam.

AP Statistics               [47604]
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: Pre-AP Calculus

The course will first explore data by describing patterns and departures from patterns.Sampling and experimentation will be discussed through the use of planning and conducting surveys and experiments. The third major area to be covered is anticipating patterns through the use of probability and sampling distributions. The course concludes with statistical inference through estimation, confidence intervals, and tests of significance.

 AP Calculus BC
1 unit              2 semesters

Pre-Requisite: AP Calculus AB

This course is the study of differential and integral calculi, similar to a first year calculus course. This course relies on the student’s understanding of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, advanced mathematics topics, limits and elementary functions. In addition, students will develop a deep understanding of limits, elementary functions, differentiation, integration, basic differential equations, parametric functions, polar functions, vector functions, and sequences and series. AP Calculus BC is an extension of AP Calculus AB. Upon completion of this course, students will prepare and take the AP BC exam.

Math Electives

Engineering Essentials
1 unit                       2 semesters

This course is comprised of four modules.  The first module is titled the Human Machine and involves biomedical engineering where students build a prosthetic limb. The second module is titled Engineering Earth and involves environmental engineering. The third module is titled the Challenge of Roving Caillsto and involves mechanical engineering where students work on robots based on Lego Mindstorm kits and NXT software.  The fourth module focuses on how to use math and science to create and design technologies in areas such as digital video, movie special effects, electronic music, electronic music, the Internet and cell phones.  It involves utilizing a digital signal processor, a webcam and LabView software.
